Jack and his Kal Racing Impala SS #99 were among 40 entries that were on hand for Illiana’s 50th annual Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 100. Jack qualified 18th fastest during time trials with a lap of 19.975 seconds. Lining up on the pole for the second 15-lap “last chance” race, Jack saw his car shut off during the parade lap with Jack coasting into the infield quarter-mile track. With Jack apparently out of the race, a wreck occurred on the first lap with time needed to clean up the track. Jack was pushed on to pit road with the crew and a lot of extra help looking under the hood at the carburetor. Finally getting the car restarted on pit road, Jack reentered the race, getting his front row starting spot back. When the green flag flew, Jack grabbed the lead and went on to the victory as his car continued to miss and sputter. Changing carburetors (a borrowed one from the Mike White team) and repairing a busted exhaust system, the crew got the No. 99 ready for the 100 lapper.
Starting 18th, Jack ran the opening part of the race about 17th, moving up until finally finishing 14th as the checkered flag fell with Jack one lap behind the leaders. Kal Racing would like to thank all the “volunteer help” that helped get the 99 car ready for the 100 lapper including John Brolick, Greg Craven, Frank Danta, Tom Rose and Ron Bloomberg.
Kal Racing would also like to thank everyone for their help and support throughout the 2011 season. We are already thinking and preparing ahead for 2012. See you at the races!

A busy night at Illiana Motor Speedway saw 29 super late models entered with the track hosting its Old Timers Night that was rained out the two previous Saturday nights. Jack qualified 11th fastest with a lap of 19.929 seconds around the half-mile paved oval in his Kal Racing Impala SS. Starting 10th in the second 8-lap heat race, Jack moved to fourth place before the checkered flag fell. Lining up outside the front row of the 24-car starting field for the 30-lap main event, Jack battled to stay in the top ten most of the race with the handling of the car just not quite up to the driver’s liking. Jack maintained and “kept pedaling” finally finishing sixth when the race was over. Before the night of racing started, all the cars were lined up on the straightaway as part of a fan appreciation evening with fans coming down to get autographs, pictures and tiny checkered flags and candy for the kids. During the pre race activities, Jack had former stock car champion Ray Young, who drove No. 99 for years, and longtime Raceway Park announcer Wayne Adams sign his car.

Grundy County Speedway hosted its second annual Frank Welch Memorial 94-lap event with 26 late model cars showing up for the competition. Jack qualified 15th fastest with a lap of 15.440 seconds. Starting 15th in the main event, Jack moved up a few positions only to be sent to the back of the pack after running into the back of Scott Dunning, who had slowed down to avoid a jamup in front of him. At the end of the longest line for the double-file restart, Jack raced along until making a pit stop in order to make a chassis adjustment. Soldiering along and passing a few cars, attrition helped and Jack came home 12th as the checkered flag fell.

The Kal Racing team and its new Chevy Impala SS finally made it to the race track for a new season of racing as Jack and his No. 99 went racing at the Grundy County Speedway. With a field of 24 late models on hand, Jack qualified ninth fastest with the car having a bad “push” during the two-lap run. The third-of-a-mile paved oval saw Jack turn in a lap of 15.646 seconds. Starting outside of the front row for the 10-lap “fast car” heat race, Jack and Scott Dunning got together coming off turn four for the start, sending Jack spinning into the infield. With a little front nose damage, Jack took his position for the restart and grabbed the lead when the green flag fell again and led a few laps before finally finishing third. The 30-lap feature saw Jack lead for several laps before the car’s handling started going away with Jack settling for a ninth place finish at the end.
