Notes: ad in National Auto Racing News (forerunner of National Speed Sport News) showed the track opening on Monday Nite, July 22, Midget Races, Purse $400.00 Guaranteed, full fifth-mile dirt track; locals Del Lewis and Joe McAllister – promoters; Chicago’s Wally Zale won first midget feature race held there on 7/22/1940 ahead of Cowboy O’Rourke and Ray Richards; starter Bill Vandewater and announcer Ed “Twenty Grand” Steinbock were part of the officiating team; later in the year – ad in NARN – track looking for “Class B” cars.
