Bay Darnell poses for photographer Russ Lake at the "Milwaukee Mile" prior to a 1974 USAC stock car race.  Darnell called the Deerfield, Ill. area home during most of racing career, which started with stock cars and later open-wheel modifieds in and around the  northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin areas.   Darnell's grandson, Erik, is a front-runner in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition.

Wisconsin photographer Russ Lake caught Tom Cox and his Ford going  for a wild ride during a USAC stock car race at the "Milwaukee Mile" on July 15, 1962.

Before becoming a regular on the old USAC stock car circuit, Northern Illinois driver Bay Darnell raced open wheel modified stock car at tracks like the old Waukegan Speedway and several in southern Wisconsin.  Racing on the old quarter-mile dirt track at the "Milwaukee Mile" Darnell flips his modified during a August 10, 1963 race.
