Wisconsin's Marlin Walbeck's excepts his prize money from promoter Hugh Deery (checkered coat) after winning the National Short Track Championships 200 in 1967 at Rockford.

Just shy of his 25^th birthday, Dick Trickle won the inaugural National Short Track Championships 200 lap event at Rockford Speedway in 1966. It is said that Rockford promoter Hugh Deery paid Trickle with $5.00 bills.
