RENSSELAER RACEWAY PHOTO SCRAPBOOK #2

TWO TEDS—Hobart’s Ted Schroeder was a consistent top runner and won the 1960 track title.  Track promoter Ted Knorr had just given Schroeder an award after one of his wins.  Both Schroeder and Knorr are gone now, but they are not forgotten by the fans of the fairgrounds track.

Larry Danford of Monticello was one of the original drivers at the track.  The veteran racer started with the coupes in 1956 and won the track’s 1971 late model crown.  Danford, shown in this 1960 picture, would be killed in a farming accident near Monticello in the 1990’s.

Rensselaer’s George Wood poses with the checkered flag in this 1959 shot.  Tragically, Wood would lose his life in a multiple rollover accident on the backstretch on the fairgrounds clay on July 4th, 1963.

Dave Whitcomb took the Rensselaer title in 1963 and went on to race in the stock car division of USAC.  The Valparaiso garage owner won a couple of USAC events before retiring.  He passed away on November 1, 2004.
