Racer, sign painter and motorsports graphics artist, Art Dexter dreamt up the idea of Volkswagen racing at O’Hare Stadium in Schiller Park , Ill. in 1967.  Dexter, still active doing lettering, pinstriping, etc. at his Elgin shop, is seen here after winning a VW event at O’Hare in September of 1968—the final year of racing at the high-banked quarter-mile paved oval.
