ELMER STEINBECK

Elmer Steinbeck (left) poses with the late Harry Molenaar during the Illiana Motor Spedway banquet and awards night in 1972.  Steinbeck worked at Illiana from 1972 through 2007 as the track's official timer and scorer.  Steinbeck began scoring races in 1952 at the old 87th St. Speedway in Chicago and later worked at Sante Fe Speedway, O'Hare Stadium and the Rockford Speedway before coming to work at Illiana.  Steinbeck retired after this past season and was honored at Illiana's banquet in November.

Longtime Illiana Motor Speedway timer and scorer Elmer Steinbeck says a few words at the speedway's annual awards banquet in 2007.  Working at the raceway since 1972, Steinbeck retired after the 2007 racing season.  Speedway owner Mike Mikuly (left) gets ready to present an appreciation plaque to Steinbeck as announcer Dave Alger looks on.
