North Shore Speedway

Years of operation:   1932

Location: Waukegan (reported west of Waukegan in one news story)

Notes: little is known about this dirt track; track was to host a benefit racing program for Art Placky’s widow on November 6 – Placky was killed in a crash at Indiana’s Roby Speedway on October 16, 1932; ticket stubs exist that show race dates for August and September of that year; Chicago’s James Blitz (or Blitch), 25, who sometimes raced under the name of Jimmy McDowell, died from injuries suffered during August 21, 1932 racing program.

(Unconfirmed – Historic Aerials shows an imprint of a possible half-mile race track directly north (across Washington St.) from the quarter-mile Waukegan Speedway.)
