John McKarns, pictured here in 1995, ran the late model series, ARTGO, from 1979 through 1997, after helping original owner Art Frigo start the series in 1975.

John McKarns and his wife, Sue, pose with longtime Chicago area stock car racer, Larry Schuler during the annual Mazon Speed Bowl/Grundy County Speedway Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in 2008.

In February 2009, John McKarns received the "Stew Reamer Award" for his contributions to auto racing during the annual Racing Promotion Monthly workshops in Florida.
